Our ITT course runs from September to June.
One day a week is allocated to training either online or at our training centre at Leventhorpe, with four days spent in your placement school gaining practical teaching experience.
Your time in the classroom starts with observing and the introduction of teaching hours are gradually increased over the course, so you are always prepared and ready to move to the next phase.
You will continually be assessed, evaluating both your performance during school placements and your academic coursework, whilst always being supported and guided by your personal Mentor and Pathway Tutor.
Both our primary and secondary training routes will both result in Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with the option to add a PGCE. Both courses, run parallel with one another during most the year, using a mix of cross phase and separate phase training sessions.
The five course modules are as follows:
We collaborate with an outstanding group of placement schools within the Bishops Stortford Educational Trust. The list below is not exhaustive, as we have previously partnered with other placement schools and are open to considering alternative placements should the applicant have a specific preference. If you request one of the placement schools from our partnership list, we will always do our best to accommodate you. However, please note that each placement school has limited capacity in certain subject areas, and departmental circumstances may change.
Most of your training will take place at your main placement school, with a second school placement typically occurring for a half-term, usually from January to February.
Applications to our Initial Teacher Training Programmes are submitted through Apply the Department for Education’s ITT application service. We offer a wide range of courses, however please do contact us at any point so our team can guide you every step of the way.
You can also visit the Get into Teaching website where you will be able to access all the latest information as well as advice and support.
